The Critical Care Department
is a multi-professional healthcare specialty dedicated to providing advanced
intensive care for both adult and
paediatric patients confronting life-threatening conditions. This
department specializes in comprehensive care for patients who necessitate constant physiological monitoring and
highly specialized support, spanning from complex medical emergencies and
post-surgical recovery to multi-organ dysfunction.
Our unit provides continuous,
high-level support during a patient's most vulnerable state, delivered
by a cohesive, multidisciplinary team
of highly experienced intensivists, respiratory therapists, nurses and other
allied health professionals. This robust team ensures round-the-clock, evidence-based care within a fully
equipped Intensive Care Unit (ICU) setting.
The department seamlessly integrates life support technologies with profound multidisciplinary
expertise. Our intensivists collaborate closely with specialists across various
disciplines, including Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Neurology, Nephrology, Pulmonology and Infectious Diseases, complemented by a 24-hour respiratory therapy service, to deliver comprehensive,
protocol-driven critical care. The approach leverages their unique expertise,
their sharp ability to interpret complex therapeutic information and their
access to sophisticated equipment, ensuring the best possible outcomes.
The unit features a 13-bedded
multidisciplinary ICU equipped with advanced ventilators, real-time
centralized monitoring and essential point-of-care diagnostics. We manage a
comprehensive range of critical eventualities, including the stabilization of sepsis, acute respiratory failure, cardiac
arrest, stroke and complex trauma, along with post-operative
complications. Our specialized capabilities encompass advanced haemodynamic
monitoring, sophisticated respiratory support techniques like Prone Ventilation for ARDS, and specialized
renal therapies such as Sustained Low
Efficiency Dialysis for unstable patients. We prioritize rapid intervention,
personalized care and evidence-based medicine to significantly improve survival and long-term outcomes.
