Overview
The Foetal Medicine Unit at Baby Memorial Hospitals provides specialised diagnostic and therapeutic care for maternal and foetal conditions that require early detection and intervention. Equipped with high-resolution ultrasonography and advanced prenatal testing, the unit monitors foetal growth, assesses health in real time, and identifies anomalies at the earliest stage. The team works closely with obstetricians, neonatologists, cardiologists, and genetic counsellors to ensure coordinated, evidence-based care throughout pregnancy.
The unit manages complex conditions such as multiple gestation, foetal growth restriction, red cell alloimmunisation, and non-immune hydrops, with procedures including amniocentesis, foetal blood sampling, foetal reduction, amnioreduction, and amnioinfusion. Comprehensive imaging services include 2D, 3D, and 4D ultrasonography, first- and second-trimester scans, foetal Doppler studies, foetal echocardiography, and saline infusion sonohysterograms. The unit also offers genetic counselling and pre- and post-test guidance for double and triple marker screenings. By combining advanced technology, multidisciplinary expertise, and patient-centred care, the Foetal Medicine Unit supports safe pregnancies and optimal outcomes for both mother and baby.
